STEWARDSHIP.png

Voyageur Country is in the heart of the North Thompson Valley -

home of the world's last remaining inland temperate rain-forest.

That is about as green as it gets.

And we plan to keep it that way.

Voyageur Country is a purpose-built community dedicated to

stewardship and healthy lifestyle choices.

Everything from roads and services to home construction

have been designed to reduce environmental impact

and support conservation...

Renewable Water

Voyageur Country uses large scale, individual homeowner rainwater collection systems to provide plentiful water with minimal impact:

  • No deep fissure well drilling

  • No contaminated well sites or toxic minerals in the water

  • No underground pipe networks that deplete existing resources and negatively impact the land

  • Owner controlled fire suppression systems.

  • Abundant bulk water back up from the District of Barriere's Louis Creek Aquifer and/or the City of Kamloops Reservoir.

  • Clean, bounteous water resources in an efficient, inexpensive, environmentally sensitive and renewable system.

Voyageur Country utilizes the latest in rainwater collection technology with the

RainSeeker Maximus Plug n Play Rainwater Harvesting System

built by Canada's leading rainwater collection experts, Clean Flo Water Technologies.

Their design incorporates a 4 step, self cleaning system for maximum water potability.

Tankless Water Heaters

Voyageur Country homes come with On-Demand Tankless  Water Heaters. Besides being extremely convenient and efficient, these units are also environmentally superior to conventional tank heating systems:

  • Tankless water heaters only consume energy when they are used. Convention tanks store hot water and require continuous energy consumption.

  • Tankless systems produce fewer carbon emissions.

  • Conventional tanks are refilled with cold water, which reduces the temperature of the stored hot water, requiring even more energy to heat them.

  • Tankless systems are more efficient (no having to wait to heat your water tank after being away from your home for a period of time).

Bio-Waste Technology

Imagine a world where you don't leave any waste?

New bio-waste technology eliminates the need for conventional sewage, septic or compost systems, replacing them with water-free incineration toilets that burn waste at high temperatures, resulting in a teacup of bacteria-free ash from 4 people after 1 week use.

Incineration toilets are odorless, safe, waste-less, clean and efficient. They eliminate waste water consumption and reduce environmental waste impact to zero.

A home with 3 incineration toilets costs 30-40% less than a conventional septic system - without the messy maintenance.

Owner Controlled Fire Protection

Voyageur Country uses "owner controlled" fire suppression systems that conserve water

and offer superior protection to conventional hydrants.

The W.A.S.P. wildfire protection kit combines rooftop sprinkler protection with a dedicated

water supply and an electronically controlled generator.

The system can be triggered on site or by remote using an optional phone app.

With W.A.S.P. you don't have to rely on outside support in the event of an emergency.

The Platypus Sprinkler and Controller system was designed in Australia

to protect homes in a hot, dry climate susceptible to wildfires.

It is a permanent solution installed during home construction, adding an extra layer of protection that does not require owners to set up and take down.

It has all of the features of other systems, including adjustable cycle times to conserve water,

and a fully autonomous, owner activated remote option.

Clean Power

The BC Hydro clean energy electrical grid is the envy of the world, connected to a massive network with abundant hydro electric power:

  • No hydrocarbons, nuclear waste or other pollutants.

  • Power lines underground to domiciles to avoid unsightly poles and wires that can harm wildlife and degrade the landscape.

  • Ability for additional power from solar panels, wind turbines and geothermal.

Durable Roads

Voyageur Country's rural roads are constructed using environmentally safe, non-toxic binders that provide pavement-like durability and strength and virtually eliminate airborne dust:

  • Roads utilize natural, local soils, sediments and rocks and are contoured to the natural geography.

  • Roads use a comprehensive fines preservation program derived from organic materials to maintain the beauty and cleanliness of the land.

  • Gravel surfacing reduces the carbon footprint in the manufacture of concrete  - no paving of paradise here.

Green Home Design

Log homes are natural structures that  complement their habitat. Log, Post & Beam and Timber Frame homes make use of a renewable resource and reduce human impact to the land:

  • Logs are renewable and sustainable

  • Wood harvesting is more energy efficient than manufacturing of plastics, concrete and other building materials.

  • Logs homes require less energy to build than conventional housing like brick, concrete, steel and lumber.

  • Energy efficient - thermal mass helps reduce energy demand and costs.

  • Better air quality - log homes emit zero toxins and logs naturally store carbons and regulate humidity.

  • Log density acts as a natural fire inhibitor.

  • Log homes are more durable and can last for hundreds of years. The oldest log structure in the world is located at Zorns Gammelgard in Sweden, built in 1229.

Natural Setting and Exposure

Homes at Voyageur Country reduce energy consumption by being positioned both for privacy and efficiency - making use of natural light and heat from the sun to reduce heating during cold seasons, and shade trees to cool naturally in summer.

Low Impact Materials

Modern building materials are available in a wide variety. Voyageur Country homes utilize the highest quality, natural, green materials wherever possible to support our goals for conservation:

  • Low flow faucets and incineration toilets.

  • Recycled and reclaimed materials for siding, flooring, and decking.

  • Low energy light bulbs, quartzite countertops, natural stone and wood products.

  • Efficient, low energy tankless water heaters.

  • Low VOC water based stains and paints.

  • Long lasting, low maintenance metal roofs.

  • Natural boulder retaining walls.

  • Local foliage - no invasive species.

  • Retention of natural surroundings - no bulldozing of landscape.

Geothermal Heating and Cooling

Optional geothermal heating and cooling is a superior, more energy efficient method for your home:

  • Large lots provide the space necessary for either horizontal or vertical systems.

  • Low maintenance costs

  • A renewable, clean, green energy source.

  • Reduced carbon emissions (up to 75% less than conventional gas heating)

  • Reduced environmental footprint (non carbon emitting system)

  • Eliminates carbon monoxide risk

  • More energy efficient.

FREEDOM
and INDEPENDENCE

Voyageur Country offers the best of both worlds -

on the grid and off.

By combining rainwater collection with bulk water back up,

your home is both environmentally friendly as well as self sufficient.

Add to that a low emissions, wood burning fireplace

and a gas range for cooking and you are essentially free of the need

of outside services during a power outage or other emergency.
